Finding your tribe

As a musician, we do three things.

We work on our music. Practice, study, take instruction, listen, learn. Most of this is solitary. Every good musician knows it takes years and years of solid practice to become accomplished.

We also play with other musicians. Music is a social art. Playing with other musicians is a vital part of playing, sharing music with fellow players.

Last, we perform for other people. This, too, is important.

All music teachers know these basic steps when they have their pupils practice weekly, play in ensembles and perform at recitals.

We find our tribe when we find the music that moves us enough to attempt to master it; and find the musicians who love it, as well.

As a performer, we play for people who not only love it and work at it, but also for all those who never learn how to play, but love what we love.

Then, together, listening and playing music, we experience the transformative power of music flowing thru all of us at once.

That's magic.
