The Basic Marketing Package

So, here's the deal.
Making a living as a performer and a songwriter is tough.
It's especially tough if you want to do original material.
The Internet and the almost-zero cost of listening to music has made it far harder than it was twenty five years ago to earn money playing music.
Not to mention the ever increasing number of great musicians emerging from the almost-free, excellent instruction on the Internet.
Topping it off is the virtually costless cost of recording songs and videos if you have the know how. It's no longer a question of having expensive equipment. It's having the intellectual tools to make the project sing.
All of that bleak news leads me to the good part.
If you can put together the basic marketing package the Internet asks for you've got a chance to reach a lot people.
Nearly 4 billion Internet users.
You just have to grab their attention, get them coming back for more, and, then, figure out how to monetize that attention.
What's the basic package?
Pretty simple.
Three things.
First, a good, solid, competitive website that includes all the sections, links to social media, etc. you see in artists you enjoy and whose websites turn you on.
Second, decent, interesting, unique recordings of your songs.
Third, entertaining, compelling videos.
Create that package, and create it against the top competition in your genre and then, not only will it make you feel good and wow your fans, but it will give you a body of work you can market.
To booking agents.
To publicists.
To labels.
To the Internet and all its rivers of listeners looking for you.
You can do it anywhere where there is an Internet connection and a small handful of tools (a digital recording workstation, some GoPros and more, a web builder friend).
How far do you want to go? How far is your reach? How far will your drive take you?
Put your basic marketing package together and see.
